Stargazing - Tier i

Beginner tier of Stargazing activity

Details

You walk into an open and tidy clearing in the forest. You were told this path would lead you to possibly the nicest, most surreal place to view the stars in peace and quiet. You notice that near the farthest edge of the clearing near the cliff there's a Lupinus who's feeling around and messing with some of his papers and such. As you walk closer, you notice how there are books, documents and tools scattered about, all relating to the stars, as well as a huge telescope on the edge of the cliff. The Lupinus alerts to your presence, and looks over in your direction with faded eyes, looking confused.

"Hm... Hm-? Oh!" You watch as the Lupinus before you stumbles and trips, scattering his documents as he turns to look in your direction. You help him to his paws. "S-Sorry! You startled me there! Heh- I hadn't noticed you were a person and not just a sound..."

You point out that you were there for while, and tilt your head, puzzled why he didn't see you when you're were in his line of sight. "Oh were you? Sorry, sorry, forgive me! I can't exactly see you... or much of anything...-" And that's when you noticed the glazed look in his eyes. He's blind. "Oh well. Anyway, my name is Lorix! It's a pleasure to meet you!"

Welcome to the Stargazing Activity!

"For the longest time, us Lupini have been known to take time to enjoy and study the stars. Partly because they're heavily referenced in tales of the ancient beings we know as Celestials and the Fallen, but also because they're just really pretty! And although I'd like to say that I've discovered most of the constellations over the years, I, and many others, like to believe that that deity of stars, Astra, walks the universe each day and each night, laying a new path of constellations and stars in Its wake. If you could help me chart down new gatherings of the stars, I'd be happy to reward you! So what do you say?" You agree to help him out. "Wonderful!" His tail sways happily, knocking over a few things in the process. Not that he seems to notice, as he turns around to search for some things. "You'll start with the beginner tier I set up, but as you get better you can unlock the next levels of the activity. Oh! And I'll reward you for your work too!"

Stargazing : Beginner

Prerequisites: None!

"Welcome! Tonight I'll just have you go through and try to identify stars and constellations I have already charted! This is just so you get a handle of stargazing basics! But don't worry! As you prove you're getting better, the next tier will be unlocked, yielding better rewards!"

Botany - Tier i

Beginner tier of Botany activity

Details

Your nose twitches as you catch the scent of flowers permeating the air. You follow the smell to a quaint little shop. It is small, made of brick (though you can barely see the bricks), and absolutely covered in flowers. A brief glance behind the shop reveals some kind of glass structure but temper your curiosity for the moment and enter the shop.

A bell chimes above you, as if to signal your entrance, though you pay that little mind as your senses take in the store. You feel it’s warm and welcoming presence seep into your bones. Your nose takes in the fragrance from the flowers surrounding you, almost as if caught in a gentle, pleasant smelling fog. Your gaze wanders over the store and you realize with a start that everything is covered with plants; the floors, the walls, the stairs, the counter, even the ceiling has some sort of mix of moss and vines growling wherever sunlight casts its gentle light into the store from the window. Your ears pick up the sound of rushing water and you feel yourself amazed at the prospect: they must have an artificial water source for all of the plants they have.

As you attempt to absorb all of the sensory information in front of you, you are interrupted when a voice calls out to you in greeting, “Greetings. I take it you are enjoying our flora?”

Aster-white-rose

You half startle and whip your head around to see a stunning Lupinus standing behind you at the counter. You catch a glimmer of amusement in their eyes (likely at your actions) as they smile benevolently at you and beckon you closer to their counter. Although embarrassed, you approach the counter they stand behind.

“Don’t be flustered, my dear.” The Lupinus says with a kind smile. They turn their eyes from you and look fondly over the flowers in, presumably, their shop, “Many react similarly when they first enter our shop and see our plants.”

You tilt your head in confusion and ask who they mean by ‘our’. They chuckle and elaborate, “I mean myself and my brother.” Seemingly reading your thoughts, they look behind you and your eyes follow to see a large glass door with a plethora of plants. And those are only the ones in view. The Lupinus chuckles at your expression and adds on with a soft, loving expression, “My brother actually cares for the shop but he’s currently in the back garden tending to our medicinal herbs and the like. Now, then, is there anything I may do to assist you?”

You tell them that you were drawn in by the scent and grew evermore curious as you drew in the sight of the shop. They laugh gently, the sound almost as musical as the chimes at the door to their shop. Their laughter trails off and a comfortable silence settles over the two of you for just a moment before they let out a low gasp. You turn to them, fully alert, and are about to ask what’s wrong when they bow their head to you with an apologetic manner about them, “I beg your pardon, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Aster.”

You introduce yourself in turn and are about to ask what the glass structure you saw outside is when your words die on your lips. Your senses alert you to movement in your peripheral and you turn to see three small figures float into view. You study their forms for only a moment before you realize quite suddenly what they are: Firefaes! You are transfixed by their glasslike wings twinkling with a soft, warm light. They’re common enough creatures in Lunairea and love to be around flora. So, you’re not too terribly surprised they’ve appeared in the shop, which honestly appears as if it is its own self-contained ecosystem.

The Firefaes dart into and out of view behind the wall, almost as if coaxing something, or someone, to come out from behind the wall. A few still moments later, another Lupinus pads in. You take in their appearance and notice the similarities between them and Aster almost immediately. Not the least being their entrancing beauty, you muse.

“Sister.” The Lupinus bow their head in greeting to their sister and then turn their gaze to you. So, this is the brother Aster told you about. As he looks at you, you can’t help but notice their eyes. Although beautiful, you focus on the odd coloration of one of his eyes. A shiver runs down your spine as you realize that he has a dichroic eye. You rip your eyes away from his as you realize you were staring and bow apologetically.

You can’t help but stare at the wooden, flora covered floor as thoughts wage war in your mind. There are stories of those with Odd Eyes, of course, but you believe them to be only that - stories. You idly wonder if there is any truth to them, however, as you recall Firefly’s hauntingly beautiful optics. Only time will tell, you suppose.

“This is my younger brother, Firefly.” Aster’s sharp tone breaks you from your reverie and you realize that Firefly is standing behind Aster, almost hiding from your view. You catch Aster’s sharp gaze as she looks down at you. You immediately catch onto the protective edge to her being and back away from the counter for a moment; no sense in provoking her further, after all.

The two visibly relax at your actions and then look to one another. You sense that they are communicating with each other and look away to give them some privacy. Aster’s voice brings you back to awareness and you look up to once again see her warm expression, “I believe you were going to tell me if there was anything you needed in the shop? Or perhaps you’d rather learn some of our trade?”

Welcome to the Botany Activity!

You follow Aster through the store and outside. "We inherited this shop from our mother when we were younger, I was about 17 and he 15... it's our family's pride and joy." She walks into the maze garden and you continue following, in awe of all of the flowers. "We both have a green thumb, but I was blessed with an Affinity for plants at birth, hence why they thrive here, even when the cold months peak." That explains it. "I'm always looking for more plants to care for though! I enjoy growing and caring for them, and breeding plants to test for hybrid flora is always enjoyable." You tilt your head and stare forward, confused. Breeding? She looks to you and chuckles. "Yes, breeding. Plants have gender you know! But it's much more binary. A simple pollen exchange births new seeds every warm season. I enjoy the hybrids, they've many uses." She pauses and her tail waves. "Ah! Apologies, I was rambling. I brought you here to ask if you'd like to assist me?" You nod, already excited. If she was this passionate, surely it has to be as great as it sounds! "Alright then! Follow me to the larger greenhouse please." She sighs, picking up the pace a bit. The greenhouse is larger than the shop! How there must be great wonders in there. Colorful avians flit around, chirping, singing, playing. It was like music. A little hummingbird with brilliant iridescent feathers flits up and sucks the nectar from the flowers in Aster's antlers. "We'll start here, but as time goes on I'll teach you new things about botany!"

Botany : Beginner

Prerequisites: None!

"Welcome! For now I'm just going to have you work in a greenhouse or garden we've already set up! Take care of the plants, feed the hummingbirds, read some of the botany books or notebooks I've left laying around or whatever else you deem important. I'll come back to check on you soon!"
Draw or write about your lupinus tending to, watering and generally caring for plants in a garden or greenhouse!

Free Range Exploration - Tier i

Beginner tier of Free Range Exploration activity

Details

You sigh tiredly as you crest yet another small hill. You glance once more at the pamphlet depicting the activity as questions race through your mind. Why must the Lupinus in charge of Free Range Exploration be so difficult to find? Why did they have to pick this place in particular as the starting point for their activity? Well, you muse as you continue onward, at least you are getting to see more of Lunairea. That’s a positive way to look at it… right?

You catch sight of a cloaked figure in the distance and recognize them almost immediately as the Lupinus who recruited you into this adventure. You approach the Lupinus and greet them. They look rather excited at your presence and quickly close the gap between the two of you, “Hi again!” They say when the distance between you two is diminished. They bounce the rest of your way and then begin speaking once more, “Thank you so much for coming! You’re actually one of the first Lupini to show up for this activity ever! So, um, I’m sorry if I seem a little over excited, haha. I’m just really happy to have you here!”

You study the Lupinus in front of you as you wave off his apologies, a little eagerness won’t harm you. In fact, it makes you a little more excited for the actual exploring part of this activity. You pause and realize that when last you met you didn’t introduce yourself and, without missing a beat, state your name to the Lupinus.

“Oh! It’s very nice to meet you!” They say and then freeze for just a moment as horror crosses their eyes, “Oh no! I forgot to introduce myself when last we met! I’m so sorry about that! I’m Runic, but you can call me Rune. I hope we can be friends!”

Welcome to the Free Range Exploration Activity!

Amusement lances through you before you turn back to Rune and ask him what the two of you will be doing for the activity. Rune bounces giddily at your words before rushing ahead of you to another hill, indicating that you should follow him. Once you catch up to Rune you notice the landscape in front of you - the way the winds rustle through the grass, the way water sparkles in the distance, animals that twitter to and fro.

“It’s beautiful, huh?” Rune asks in a rare show of calm, his voice reverent. He indicates outwards to the sights in front of you and says, “We’re going to explore all of this! All this, and more! Because we’re Free Range Explorers! Our only boundaries are those created by us - walls to keep us from wandering too far into cities or ancient ruins or hallowed ground. I’ll teach you how to read maps, how to read the land, how to read sigils left behind by the Primus so you don’t accidentally set foot in any of their sacred places. I’ll teach you all of that and more, if I can! So what do you say? Care to join me on an adventure?”

Free Range Exploration: Beginner

Prerequisites: None!

"This meadow is pretty open and there aren’t a lot of places for monsters to hide, so it should be okay! I’ll be right over here if you need me though. Don’t hesitate to call me - for whatever really. If you find something cool or if you need help making your map or even if you do run into a monster… though… if you run into a monster, please make sure to call for me! I don’t want a new friend to get hurt!”

Ruin Exploration - Tier i

Beginner tier of Ruin Exploration activity

Details

You approach the ruin with no small amount of trepidation. Your senses tell you that nothing is present, save perhaps some small amount of vermin, but they do little to curb the unease you feel. Perhaps that is simply the effect of ruined places such as this. Regardless, you shake your head and finish your approach. In the corner of your eye, however, you catch a glimpse of a white figure and freeze in your tracks.

The ghost like Lupinus appears almost ghost like and you quickly take a step back in alarm. Who are they? What are they doing here? Are they out to do you harm?

The figure ignores your actions and steadily approaches. They open their mouth just enough so that their soft voice carries on the wind to your ears, "I see someone has finally arrived. I am Callum. Follow me."

Although hesitation stills you for a moment, you follow behind the dove colored Lupinus. Their paws meet the ground, so you hope they really aren't a ghost. As you observe them, they glide further into into ruins, almost as if they know precisely where to go.

Finally, they stop - where you don't entirely know - and turn to you. Their gaze is inscrutable but you feel that they somehow just know everything about this place. You take the moment to introduce yourself and tell them why you're there. They stare at you for a moment (a moment too long in your opinion) before they nod, "I am aware. That is why I have brought you here. This is a simple enough ruin to explore. Although I have explored this place in its entirety myself, there are still plentiful treasures within its walls. Please do not fret and begin once you are ready."

Welcome to the Ruin Exploration Activity!

Callum's stare still unnerves you as he looks directly into your eyes. A small ghost of a smile flashes across his visage for just a moment, so fast that you almost miss it. His face stills not even a second later and he looks from you into the ruins, "These ruins have awaited one such as you to come. They are welcoming to you, so I believe you will find no resistance in this place. Still, take all due caution, because, while the ruins themselves offer you no malice, those dwelling within might not feel the same way."

Ruin Exploration: Beginner

Prerequisites: None!

"Come along then, I assure you that this ruin is safe. It's one of the ruins the guild uses to train newer adventurers, to teach them about environmental indicators and challenges them to find what most wouldn't think to check for. Almost like a scavenger game where you need to watch your wings. Er- head."

Mining - Tier i

Mining - Tier i

Beginner tier of Mining activity

Details

A heavy clank greets your ears as you traverse the rocky downslope of a nearby cave. Surely this is the spot, right? The one where you can meet up with Sol and learn how to properly mine?

You continue forward and, as you round a bend, you spot a dirt and soot-covered figure in the distance. You call out a tentative greeting, which causes the figure to cease their movements and look in your direction. You swear you see a pair of bright purple eyes shine through the darkness as this being looks at you. You tense when they put down their pickaxe and move towards you but relax when their voice, calm and even, calls out their greetings. A hulking figure moves next to them, almost invisible in the dim lighting and very well camouflaged against the rock. The two figures almost coalesce in the darkness before the smaller of the two appears to glide along the cavern floor towards you. The larger figure is slow in their motions, almost as if afraid to move too quickly - and rightly so, given their impressive size - and yet, they are no less graceful as they artfully dodge around the stalactites and stalagmites that litter the area.

The smaller figure reaches you first and greets you with a warm smile, "Greetings and apologies for not hearing your approach. I was concentrating on getting this gem out and almost missed you.” As they speak, your eyes drift to their paws where they have nestled a small, sparkling gemstone. Your eyes alight and look back up to meet the stranger’s own eyes, who’s merely smiling at your exuberance. They hand you the small gemstone, “I’m glad to see you, too, are interested in the things that come from the earth. Think of this as a welcome gift from me to you.”

The other figure stalls as they near the pair of you and nods their own greeting. A wizened voice erupts from their mouth in the next moment, their tone as gentle as their prior movements, “Hello, young one. I am Cairn. I run the shop for this mine and others like it.”

“And I,” The first of the two introduces with a slight flair, “am Sol. I run these mines.” They pick themself up from their seated position as Cairn does the same, his hulking frame barely managing to avoid scraping the ceiling of the cave. The two gingerly maneuver their way through the cave and waves you to move with them. Sol looks back with a smile, “Grab a pickaxe and I’ll show you how to gather all that glitters and glows beneath the stone."

Welcome to the Mining Activity!

"Mining is very important to us lupini. Though the practice isn't necessarily linked to any belief or deity like many other occupations are, without mining we wouldn't have architecture or magic manipulation or anything! In fact, the only way to get our hands on raw Aetherium is by mining. The further you go, the more of it you'll find, but that's not to suggest it's common, no no. Aetherium is very rare and honestly pretty dangerous to mine and transport. Attracts monsters like flies to rot, in fact."

Cairn nods along to Sol's comparison, tilting his massive head down at you. "We work closely with the Adventurer's Guild or mercenary groups when the adventurer's guild is unavailable," he says, keeping pace with you and Sol. "They help keep the monsters at bay when we're extracting it. Luckily we haven't come across anything too dangerous just yet, but it's always good to be safe. That's why we have you kiddos start off in places like this, where it's safe and monsterless. Once you get better though, we'll have you join up with us on some more difficult mines, mm?"

Mining : Beginner

Prerequisites: None!

"These mines are a beginner's dream, safe as a star," Sol hums, twirling their pick as if it weighs nothing. "Filled with plenty to be discovered as well. We try not to work it too much, me 'n old Pop Pop, but sometimes the new ones get through all this place  has to offer and so we gotta carve a way through. How about you join us? Like I said, safe as a star, so you don't have to worry about cave ins or poison gas, haha... what? Are you feeling alright? You're white as a sheet!"

Alchemy - Tier i

Beginner tier of the Alchemy activity

Details

A somewhat bitter smell hits you before the sight of the building you walked into does. You let out a short cough - it isn't entirely unpleasant, but not exactly lovely either. You hear rustling and clattering from some distant room, so mindful not to step on any of the assorted herbs, books and bottles - which, to be fair, were arranged rather neatly - that litter the floor, you make your way to the back to find out just what was going on.

You nearly startle as a gentle voice comes from directly in front of you. "One moment, stay back please." Though you can only see his back, there before you sits a lupinus sitting still as a statue, tilting a beaker full of some fiery red liquid into another obscured container. His movements are so slow, so steady, that your eyes struggle to comprehend that he's moving at all. At long last a single opaque droplet slips free of its container, and the lupinus quickly tilts it back up before more can follow. You feel a wave of warmth flow against your face as the droplet makes contact with whatever was in the other container, and the lupinus hums in satisfaction.

In one smooth movement, the lupinus stands and turns to face you whilst changing into feralis before you can see his sapius front. "My apologies," he says, voice gentle and low, "that's a very delicate process and I couldn't just step away... Ah, you're new here, aren't you? Pleasure to make your acquaintance, my name is Merlin."

You introduce yourself politely and express your reason for entering his shop and - you embarrasedly learn - his home. He shakes his head, dismissing your concerns on intruding - the first level was his shop and the tower itself was his home, he explains, before leading you back out towards the storefront. "Teach you? I suppose I could..." he glances back at the room you just left, seeming almost... hesitant? "You'll have to give me a day or two to clean up... I'd rather not risk another explosion in the lab before I move the new books into the tower... Come back tomorrow and we'll get started, I should have some material for you to work with. Oh, and if you don't know what you're doing, I'll be able to teach you, just let me know."

Welcome to the Alchemy Activity!

"Welcome back. I ended up asking a friend of a friend to help me move some of the overstocked books upstairs and... oh, you probably don't want to listen to me talk about the events of yesterday." Merlin nudges his hat back before leading you to the backrooms where you find an assembly of pristine alchemical equipment, multitudes of ingredients, and a few books you glance over the covers of before he pulls your attention back. "I only brought out what I figured wouldn't blow up in your face at the slightest imperfection- no offense, of course, but I'm sure you understand just how delicate the practice of alchemy is."

You look over the equipment before you, a little intimidated by it all. "We'll start small." Merlin seems to have noticed your uncertainty, and his tone is reassuring. "I'll walk you through the process and spare you the details of the laws of alchemy until you're more confident in this. Now then, there are three ways you can do this..."

Alchemy : Beginner

Prerequisites: The First Step of Alchemy (Award)

"You'll have to start with experimentation. Sure, you can simply read recipes from books and scrolls or learn them from just about anyone who's dabbled in alchemy before, throw them all in a pot and hope for the best, but the way I was taught was to learn the properties of these ingredients first and then combine them based on the effects for a desired result. That being said, sometimes there are things you wouldn't expect to combine well, such as a poison and a vitality-based ingredient being combined to make something completely unrelated. That being said, sometimes we have to try new things to make new things.

"Once you've done some experimentation and learn a few recipes, you can move onto active and inactive participation. Active participation simply involves you demonstrating that you can do this, inactive can be done at home, on the go or just anywhere else without needing to show the work for it."

HINT!

"Wondering where to start? Well, the basic reagent you made with me before is definitely required for most, if not all, potions you'll be able to make. You could try the items you gained from other activities too. Which ones you ask? Well now, what's the point of learning for yourself if you expect all of the answers from me? Try something. Anything. I'll let you know if you were on the right track or not."

Alchemy is played a bit differently than the other activities, please read to get an idea of what to do!
Experimentation

You submit a visual and/or written prompt depicting your lupini experimenting and trying to make new potions. Please note that you can fail experimentation even if you use the right recipe!! Keep trying.

You can experiment up to 5 different ingredient combinations.

Active Participation

You can create and submit a visual/written entry while also using equipment or familiars that grant benefits. You can work on already-discovered recipes, you just need to list what recipe(s) and ingredients you are using to do so!

You can create as many potions as you want, so long as you have the materials for it.

Passive Participation
You do not need to submit an entry to inactively participate, just go to the crafting tab in order to make your potions! Please note that you do not gain EXP or receive equipment/familiar benefits if inactively participating. You cannot experiment in inactive participation.

Pre-Alchemy Tier i

The starter quest for the Beginner Tier of the Alchemy Activity

Details

"Ah good, I was wondering if anyone would show up for this... before they try to throw themselves into Alchemy unprepared, anyway. I've had three people come in with alchemical burns in the last week because they didn't bother learning first, can you believe that? ... Are you alright? You're white as a sheet. Don't tell me I scared you. Maybe that's a good thing, just means you'll be especially eager to have this class rather than risk splashing yourself with a bottle full of liquid fire."

Merlin sighs and begins pulling out items, placing them on the counter for you to see. First is... a glass bottle? "Glass bottle. Straightforward, entirely mundane, and you can find it anywhere. If you really wanted, you can make it yourself, just take sand and hot enough fire, and be careful not to burn yourself while you shape it. I believe Delilah's Store sells these for cheap, too." Next is a small bag that seems to glow despite being sealed shut. "Small stardust. As you know, our very creation can be tied back to the deity, Astra Aeterna. Therefore, all stardust has a magical quality to it. For us, it's more or less going to be a catalyst. I believe Lorix can help you acquire some." Then... an assortment of items? "Anything really can be used for this final ingredient. Part of creating is destroying, but you don't need to be an alchemist to know that. A candlestick, a rose, anything... actually no nothing alive and no equipment or tools. Someone tried to put their pet bird into this the other day. I had to waste time alerting the guards about that one." Merlin grimaces at the memory before turning back to the display of items. "Try to put these together using my equipment. You should get something called a reagent. In this case we'll just be making a Basic Reagent, which most potions require. And don't worry, you can't fail with this experiment like you can with most alchemical creations, reagents are just that easy to make."

How to Play

i. Go to Delilah General Store and purchase a glass bottle.
ii. Participate in Stargazing to get a small stardust.
iii. Participate in any activity to get a random item.
iv. Go to the recipes page and create the potion using the Basic Reagent recipe. Then when submitting for this prompt, include the reagent in your add-ons.

(Notes: Stardust of any kind should not be used as the additional ingredient. If you don't have the money to buy a glass bottle, then play any activity to earn some. Activities whose rewards work for this: Stargazing, Botany, Free Range Exploration, Ruin Exploration, Mining. The 50 SLC reward is reimbursement for the glass bottle.)

Don't cheat and buy the potion from Delilah's Store BEFORE you complete this prompt.

Your account has recipe and currency logs so staff can see if you actually made it, or just bought it.
